Anytime I hear of heart flow issues I always wondered if artery Imaging would have helped detect blockage, which if I understand it right it would?? Thank you Dr. K. for staying in front of the medical quagmire world we live in.
Yes- this imaging study involves iv contrast (the main risk is allergic reaction and kidney injury from contrast agent). The traditional way of imaging arteries uses arterial contrast delivered by pushing a catheter just above the main coronary artery. It gives a 2 dimensional image when viewed but can viewed at different angles. This is how they access arteries for angioplasty etc. The contrast risks are there plus injury/disrupted plaque can occur with organ injury potential.
Heart arterial catheterization also places the doctor and technical team at radiation risk as they stand in the room and use live X-ray called fluoroscopy obtaining the images. They use lead shields to absorb this but still over years of work significant X-ray exposure occurs.
Good articles. I was checking on my benefits for my Florida Blue Medicare Advantage Plan with a billing specialist. I was telling her about your practice as a Concierge practice. I told her it would be great if my insurance would pay part of my membership fee. I told her how your type of practice helps to keep patients out of the hospital and how you actually save us money. This should be interesting & beneficial to the insurance company. She liked what I told her and she was going to send the idea up the management chain. I told her if they have any questions that they can contact me. Maybe just maybe the might be interested in seeing how you practice model could save them money.
Thank you for reporting to them. I have maintained that insurance and other payment support needs to be behind the patient; not blocking them from seeking and getting care.
What an inspiring story. This demonstrates how leaving the traditional medical system can even help people internationally, who are willing to come to America for treatment. Another DPC for the win, and a financial win for the patient. Here’s to good health.
Dr K, would you add a “cancer prevention” article in your que? For most people generic anti inflammatory diet, stress mitigation and exercise will max their todo list. For some (like me) a hydrogen therapy won last years investment dollars. I have no idea if there are better options and would love to hear your thoughts. As a fitness expert I’ve had a DO ask me to represent Pro-tandem and numerous Beemer reps come my way. My wife wants an infer red sauna, etc etc. is there any way to p apply honest science to budgeting our time and money if cancer mitigation is our goal?
The most honest answer I can offer to this question is the same as for health in general. Minimize toxins in your environment, take control of your diet and food sources, exercise and optimize your antioxidant intake/status.
The currently novel "energy input" strategies as well as "shock therapy" environmental are all conjecture, all of which isn't without merit. This is coming from the anti-aging gurus. I feel it is important to realize that infrared energy is still external energy and a form of radiation. I personally wouldn't expose myself to such energy as a general overall body exposure. It makes no sense to me to expose my body to external environmental stress of this type without real evidence.

Things have to change and it starts with us.
